Three-Way Catalytic Converters

The main purpose of a catalytic converter is to transform the harmful gases produced during fuel combustion into non-toxic gases before they are released into the atmosphere.

Three-way catalysts, also known as TWC (Three Way Catalyst), effectively eliminate three specific pollutants found in the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines. These pollutants primarily include hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), and nitrogen oxides (NOx).

Technology and functionality

Three-way catalysts consist of a combination of three valuable metals: platinum, palladium, and rhodium.

The catalytic activity of these catalysts is further enhanced by the presence of an oxygen storage material (OSM). This OSM is produced by modifying oxides of cerium and zirconium, which are then doped with various other rare earth metal oxides such as praseodymium, neodymium, terbium, samarium, gadolinium, and lanthanum.

This unique formulation enables the catalytic converter to function effectively across a wide temperature range, starting from cold start temperatures and reaching as high as 1000 degrees Celsius.

Testing of Catalytic Converters To EPA Specifications

Catalytic converters are subject to testing to ensure they meet the specifications set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA has established regulations and standards for catalytic converters to control vehicle emissions and promote environmental protection.

The testing process involves evaluating the performance of catalytic converters under specific conditions and measuring their ability to reduce pollutants. Some of the common tests conducted to assess catalytic converters include:

1. Cold Start Test: This test evaluates the converter's efficiency in reducing emissions during a cold start, when the engine is initially turned on and the catalyst is not at its optimal operating temperature.

2. Federal Test Procedure (FTP): The FTP involves simulating various driving conditions, such as city and highway driving, to measure emissions of pollutants like carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and unburned hydrocarbons.

3. Durability Test: Catalytic converters are subjected to durability testing to assess their performance over time. This involves running the engine through multiple cycles to simulate the wear and tear experienced during normal vehicle operation.

These tests ensure that catalytic converters meet EPA standards and effectively reduce harmful emissions from vehicles. Manufacturers must comply with these regulations to ensure their catalytic converters meet the required performance levels and contribute to a cleaner environment. Non-compliant catalytic converters may face penalties and restrictions in their use or distribution.

After market Catalytic converters have to meet strict emissions standards accordance with provisions of 40 CFR 86.

Catalyst Formulations

Our team of highly qualified scientists and engineers possesses extensive expertise in material science, specifically in the domain of catalyst formulations. Over the years, they have successfully developed multiple formulations of PGMs (Platinum Group Metals) and rare earth oxides tailored to meet the requirements of various gasoline engine classes and sizes.

To ensure quality control and efficiency, we handle all stages of the PGM processing in our own facility. We directly purchase raw materials in bulk from refineries, allowing us to meticulously select the appropriate grade and quantity of PGMs for our formulations. This approach guarantees that we consistently utilize the right grade and amount of PGMs in our processes.

While the price of raw PGMs remains consistent across manufacturers and suppliers, we possess several advantages that allow us to offer competitive pricing. Firstly, our company benefits from lower overhead costs, enabling us to provide catalysts and coated bricks at a more affordable rate compared to other suppliers. Additionally, as we operate without intermediaries, we eliminate any additional costs associated with middlemen.

Our technical team is dedicated and highly skilled, ensuring that we deliver top-notch products. Their expertise and commitment enable us to maintain a deep understanding of our field and consistently provide effective solutions.

Canned Converters

We fully comply with the standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Our products are offered in pipe diameters of 4" and 5" with various length options including 3.75", 4.75", 6", and 8". We also provide a range of brick lengths with different grades of PGM loadings. For reference, you can find some examples in the attached drawings.

Our products can be used to weld end caps of your choosing or incorporated into the manufacturing process for direct fits. This flexibility allows for seamless integration into your specific requirements and applications.

Universal Catalytic converters with welded end caps

We offer our products in diameters of 4" and 5", and they come with welded caps designed to fit pipes with diameters of 2", 2.25", and 2.5". These caps are constructed using heavy gauge SS 409, ensuring their durability and minimizing the risk of leakage during welding. Unlike spun converters that can have thin metal and prone to leaks, our caps have an extra-thick joint collar, allowing for perfect welding to pipes.

The O2 sensor port can be welded either in the middle or at the end, providing flexibility in its placement based on your specific needs.

Our PGM loadings are available in standard, high, and ultra-high grades, allowing you to choose the appropriate level of performance for your requirements.

Direct Fit Catalytic converters

We specialize in producing a diverse range of direct fit converters that adhere to the precise specifications of the original equipment (OE). Our manufacturing process incorporates advanced technologies, including state-of-the-art 3D software, enabling us to meet OE specifications accurately. Our catalytic converters are constructed using robust stainless steel of 409 grade, ensuring longevity and durability.

To ensure optimal performance and reliability, we utilize premium-grade ceramic substrates and catalyst processing methods that meet the standards set by the original equipment. This commitment to quality allows us to deliver catalytic converters that perform at the same level as OE standards while maintaining reliability.
